Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of the IB Mathematics curriculum. This involves ensuring alignment with IB standards, updating materials, and adapting to changes in educational requirements.
  • Teacher Supervision and Support: Mentoring, supporting, and evaluating mathematics teachers within the department. Providing guidance, professional development opportunities, and resources to enhance their teaching skills.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Developing assessment strategies, tools, and methods to effectively evaluate student learning. Analyzing assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional improvements.
  • Resource Management: Managing departmental resources, including textbooks, technology, and other instructional materials. Allocating budgets, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment necessary for effective teaching and learning.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Facilitating collaboration among department members and fostering communication with other HODs, faculty, students, and parents. Participating in meetings, workshops, and conferences related to IB Mathematics education.
  • Policy Implementation: Ensuring adherence to IB policies, guidelines, and ethical standards within the department. Implementing academic integrity policies and promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Student Support: Providing support and guidance to students regarding their academic progress, course selection, and career pathways related to mathematics. Creating opportunities for extra help, tutoring, or enrichment activities.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing student performance data, trends, and outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Compiling reports for school administration, IB assessments, and other stakeholders.
  • Continual Improvement: Staying updated on educational trends, best practices in teaching mathematics, and advancements in the field. Implementing changes to enhance the quality of mathematics education within the IB framework.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Engaging parents and the community in understanding the IB Mathematics program, its objectives, and how they can support student learning at home. Organizing informational sessions or workshops when necessary.

These responsibilities require a strong understanding of the IB curriculum, effective leadership skills, pedagogical expertise in mathematics education, and the ability to manage both people and resources efficiently.

  • Promoting Discipline: Upholding the 'Behaviour for Learning Policy,' nurturing punctuality, high behavioral standards, and diligent homework completion.
  • Progressive Assessment: Assessing learning outcomes, maintaining regular marking of student work, and setting targets aligned with the Marking & Feedback Policy, while meticulously recording student progress.
  • Parent Engagement: Delivering comprehensive reports following Report Writing Guidelines and actively engaging in parent/student events, fostering a robust school-home partnership.

Qualifications and Attributes:

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A PGCE, Bachelor in Education, or equivalent formal teaching qualification for secondary High School.
  • Passion and dedication for IB education and teaching.
  • Extensive experience in Mathematics teaching, particularly within IB MYP Mathematics and DP, coupled with proven leadership within an IB setting.
