Teaching Abroad Direct is currently recruiting for an outstanding Upper School Deputy Head (Pastoral) on behalf of a prestigious international school in Beijing. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced educational leader seeking a senior leadership role in a high-performing international environment.

About the Role

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will lead and develop pastoral care and student wellbeing across the Upper School. This role is central to ensuring high standards of student welfare, behaviour, and academic success, while contributing to the school’s long-term strategic vision.

You will oversee the pastoral structure, line manage Heads of Year, and drive a whole-school wellbeing programme that supports both academic achievement and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a comprehensive pastoral care and wellbeing strategy
• Manage and support Heads of Year and pastoral teams
• Implement and monitor policies relating to behaviour, safeguarding, and student welfare
• Promote a positive school culture aligned with strong values and high expectations
• Oversee student wellbeing initiatives, enrichment programmes, and assemblies
• Use data effectively to track student progress and wellbeing
• Support safeguarding practices and ensure compliance with child protection policies
• Contribute to staff development, training, and school improvement planning

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced leader with:

• Minimum 8 years’ teaching experience
• Proven experience in pastoral leadership or senior leadership
• Strong understanding of student wellbeing, behaviour management, and safeguarding
• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
• Ability to inspire teams and drive whole-school improvement
• Relevant teaching qualifications (PGCE/QTS or equivalent)
