Dulwich teachers are expected to have insightful and detailed knowledge of the developmental characteristics and learning needs of the children they teach. They also need to have expertise in meeting the wide range of individual learning and pastoral needs of international school children who come from diverse cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds.

2.Plan for and implementeffective learning and teaching
Dulwich teachers are expected to have current knowledge and experience of the curriculum in the age range they teach. They set high expectations and challenging developmental and learning goals for their students and use a variety of effective learning and teaching strategies, resources and digital technology to support their students in achieving these goals. They encourage their students to be innovative, imaginative, creative and critical thinkers who are able to work well with others.

3.Assess, provide feedbackand report on student learning and progress
Dulwich teachers are knowledgeable and effective users of assessment for supporting learning. They use a range of data measures and assessment strategies to inform their evaluation of students’ progress which enables them to plan for learning and to report accurately and effectively on student progress and to design appropriate intervention and support strategies.

4.Develop supportive and safe learning environments
Dulwich teachers are committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and young people. They ensure a secure, stimulating and well managed learning environment that promotes a sense of safety, support and wellbeing.

Duties and Responsibilities
All teachers are subject to the conditions of employment set out in their Teaching Contract. This details the professional and particular duties required of teachers, together with benefits provided by the College.

The duties of a Senior School Teacher at Dulwich International High School Zhuhai are as follows:

Teaching and Learning

  • Have high expectations of students including a commitment toensuring that they can achieve their full academic potential.
  • Plan for progression of all students, designing effective learningsequences within lessons and across series of lessons, whichdemonstrate secure subject knowledge.
  • Teaching across the various year groups within the department,and possibly teaching across more than one department asrequired by the Deputy Director.
  • Establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructiverelationships with the students in their care.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing regular feedback withconstructive advice as to how they can improve theirperformance.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of educational trends in theirsubject(s).

Curriculum

  • Advising and co-operating with the Head of Department andother teachers on the preparation and development of schemesof work, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods ofteaching and assessments.
  • Taking any such part as may be required in the review,development and management of activities relating to thecurriculum, organisation and functions of the school.
  • Know the assessment arrangements for the subjects they arerequired to teach, including those relating to IGCSE and A Level examinations.

Pastoral

  • Serve as a Form Tutor as required, and to perform any dutiestherewith as described by the Head of Year.
  • Identify and support students whose progress, development orwell being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personalcircumstances, including referring them to colleagues forspecialist support.
  • Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working.

External Relations

  • Promoting a positive image of the subject in the widercommunity.
  • Contacting and liaising with parents on subject matters.
  • Liaising with internal and external agencies where appropriate
  • Assistance in Parent Forums as required.

Co curricular

  • Support the College’s co-curricular programme by offering atleast one extracurricular activity per week.
  • Attending relevant College and Dulwich functions as required bythe Director, some may include travel.
  • Be fully involved in the activities of their House.
  • Attend relevant assemblies as determined by the Director.
  • Be fully involved in all major events organized by thedepartment.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of students’ progress.
  • Submit formal reports on students’ progress as set out in theAssessment and Reporting Calendar.
  • Attend relevant Conferences as set out in the Assessment andReporting Calendar, some may include travel.
  • Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviourexpected of Dulwich teachers and students.
  • Be aware of the policies and practices of the College and share incollective responsibility for their implementation.

Any other duties as instructed by the supervisor.

Person Specification

Education

  • Graduate qualified teacher
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area
  • Master’s degree an advantage

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the area for which you areapplying
  • Successful experience in working with students in the age groupyou are teaching
  • Demonstrated experience in inspiring students in a stimulatinglearning environment
  • Demonstrated experience of using ICT to promote learning
  • Previous experience in an international school and familiaritywith British education system preferred
  • Experience in teaching EAL students preferred
  • Ability to analyse student data to support student achievement
  • Demonstrated experience in raising achievement and settingchallenging targets
  • Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme,especially through participating actively in the extra-curricularactivities and contributing to the life of the school community
