Oman is an Arab Sultanate on the south east tip of the Arabian Peninsula. It shares borders with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and has coasts on the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. The national population is just over 3.6 million and the official language is Arabic, although English has been adopted as a second language and is widely spoken in the bigger cities and tourist resorts.
Most teaching positions in Oman are found in the capital city of Muscat. The city is located on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, on the north east tip of the country. There are many wealthy residents of Oman, both native and foreign, and so there are a number of high-quality schools looking for overseas teachers. Overseas workers in Oman can live a very comfortable lifestyle here; salaries tend to be very good as you'd expect in the Middle East, and they are often excellent employment packages available.
If you find a position teaching in Oman, there are plenty of attractions and activities to enjoy during your off time such as excellent scuba diving, whale watching, desert safari, caving and good old-fashioned sunbathing. There are a number of World Heritage sites for those fond of history and culture.
